• Introduction

I would like to talk about one sportsperson whom I truly admire.

• Who is he/she 

Being a big fan of basketball, I have long idolised the legend of this sport – Michael Jordan, also known as MJ. I first got curious about his life when I saw a logo portraying him on a product of the brand, Nike, and his life turned out to be intriguing to me.

• What did he/she do

He played in the position of shooting guard in one of the most renowned teams, the Chicago Bulls, and was famous for his exceptional leaping ability, illustrated by performing slam dunks from the free throw line.

• What do you know about his/her life story.

Early in his NBA career, while playing for the University of North Carolina, he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated with the heading “A star is born” just over a month into his professional career. It was not only his talent but also his dedication that made him a strong clutch performer. He spent hours studying films of his opponents to improve his defense. Even when his right knee was injured, Jordan did not miss any games in the season from 1986 to 2001. Throughout his career, he led the Chicago Bulls to six championships, was awarded the NBA Most Valuable Player five times and was the first player to be honoured with both the NBA’s Defensive Player of the year award and Most Valuable Player awards. All the compliments that journalists gave him were not an overstatement.

• And explain why you admire him/her.

Although Michael Jordan retired in 2003, his skills and his legacy are still a great inspiration for any basketball player or person considering pursuing a basketball career. He is also active in charity activities. His clothing line, Jordan brand, has made donations to different organisations across America.

• Conclusion

 It’s difficult to describe how amazing Michael Jordan is in words, just watch a few of his videos playing in NBA games or his interviews, you’ll figure it out yourself.

With his exceptional leaping ability, he effortlessly soared above the opposing players to secure the rebound. (Với khả năng nhảy vượt trội, anh ấy dễ dàng bay lên phía trên các cầu thủ đối phương để lấy được bóng.)

• slam dunks: pha ghi điểm bằng cách dunk mạnh - a basketball term referring to a forceful and powerful dunk where a player jumps and forcefully slams the ball through the basket. 

The crowd erupted in cheers as the player executed a series of impressive slam dunks during the game. (Ví dụ: Đám đông vỗ tay reo hò khi cầu thủ thực hiện một loạt các pha úp rổ ấn tượng trong trận đấu.)

• free throw line : đường phạt góc - a line on a basketball court, located 15 feet (4.6 meters) from the backboard, from where players shoot free throws after being fouled.

The player stepped up to the free throw line, took a deep breath, and calmly sank both free throws. (Cầu thủ tiến lên đường phạt góc, hít một hơi sâu và tỉnh táo đưa bóng vào cả hai lần phạt góc.)

• a strong clutch performer : người chơi xuất sắc trong những tình huống quyết định - an individual who excels in crucial or high-pressure situations.

In the final minutes of the game, he proved to be a strong clutch performer, making key shots and delivering under intense pressure. (Trong những phút cuối trận đấu, anh ấy đã chứng tỏ mình là người chơi xuất sắc trong những tình huống quyết định, ghi những cú ném quan trọng và thể hiện sự xuất sắc dưới áp lực cao.)

• improve his defense: nâng cao khả năng phòng thủ của anh ấy - to enhance one's ability to defend in a sports context, particularly in basketball or other team sports.

He dedicated extra practice time to improve his defense, focusing on his footwork, positioning, and communication with his teammates. (Anh ấy dành thời gian tập luyện thêm để nâng cao khả năng phòng thủ của mình, tập trung vào việc rèn luyện chân, định vị và giao tiếp với đồng đội.)

• an overstatement:  sự nói quá, sự phóng đại - a statement or claim that exaggerates or overemphasizes something beyond what is reasonable or accurate.

Saying that he is the best player in the league is an overstatement. While he is talented, there are other players who have achieved greater success and accolades. (Nói rằng anh ấy là cầu thủ xuất sắc nhất trong giải là một sự nói quá. Mặc dù anh ấy rất tài năng, nhưng vẫn có những cầu thủ khác đã đạt thành công và nhận được nhiều giải thưởng hơn.)

• Made donations: đã quyên góp - the act of giving money, resources, or other contributions to individuals, organizations, or causes for charitable purposes or to support a specific initiative or project.

The philanthropist made significant donations to various educational institutions, funding scholarships and improving educational opportunities for students. (Nhà từ thiện đã quyên góp quan trọng cho các cơ sở giáo dục khác nhau, tài trợ học bổng và cải thiện cơ hội học tập cho sinh viên.)
