Cấu trúc bài Describe something you do that you think is important for keeping fit and healthy

Context

Being so busy with school and work, I often neglect to take care of my health. I do not exercise as often as I would like to, and too often I eat food because of its’ convenience, not because of health considerations.

Content

I do, though, do one thing consistently that I know is good for my health and that is drinking a lot of water. In a given day I will usually drink about 2.5 litres of water. Living is such a hot climate, I tend to sweat a lot, even when going about normal activities, just due to the weather. I make sure to offset this by drinking a lot, and I always keep a water bottle with me so that any time I feel thirsty I can ensure that I remain hydrated. In recent years I have heard that the rule of “make sure you drink 8 glasses of water per day” is actually a myth. Apparently it is only necessary that you drink when your body tells you that it wants water, by you feeling thirsty.

Conclusion

Even if this is true, I will drink more than 8 glasses every day because it helps me function better throughout the day.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 Sample

How do people generally stay healthy in your country?

The most common ways to stay fit differ among the people in my country, mostly along the lines of age. Young people tend to participate in more team sports whereas older people tend to do simple exercises, like going for walks. I feel quite lucky because the food in my country is, for the most part, quite healthy as so we need to do less to fight back against the negative health affects of unhealthy food.

  • differ (v)/ˈdɪfə(r)/ : Khác

Ex: French differs from English in this respect.

How can parents guide their children to build good health?

I think the best way for parents to guide their kids into being healthy is by being good role models of health. If children learn from an early age that sports and exercise are fun, they are more likely to do so. Especially if they are witnessing their own parents partaking and enjoying sports.

  • role model /rəʊl ˈmɒdl/ (n) : hình mẫu, tấm gương

Ex: Ho Chi Minh is a good role model for everyone.

  • Partake /pɑːˈteɪk/ (v): tham gia

Ex: They preferred not to partake in the social life of the town.

Do you think it is best for students to exercise several times a week?

Yes, I would agree with that statement. I think it is important throughout our lives to stay active, but making that a consistent part of your life is something that should begin at a young age. If this can be established as a habit early, it will have more and longer term improvements on health outcomes.

  • Active /ˈæktɪv/(a): hoạt bát, năng động

Ex: Staying physically active in later years can also keep you feeling younger.

  • Outcome /ˈaʊtkʌm/ (n) : Kết quả

Ex: We are confident of a positive outcome.

What do old people in your country do to keep fit?

The most common form of exercise among elderly people in my country is just walking. In the early mornings or the evenings when the heat of the day has had time to dissipate, it is common to see the parks filled with old people getting in their exercise. Thankfully there are many good parks in the city, and more being built, to give these people a place to work on their health.

  • Dissipate /ˈdɪsɪpeɪt/ (v): tan biến, mất đi

Ex: Eventually, his anger dissipated.

What kinds of sports are popular in Vietnam?

Many sports are popular here, but there is no question that the most popular is football. People love to play it and most learn the game at a very young age. As people get older, they may stop actively playing, but most people are still very heavily emotionally invested in watching the national team play.

  • Invest /ɪnˈvest/ (v) : đầu tư, dành

Ex: She had invested all her adult life in the relationship.

Do you think young people should play dangerous sports?

I think people should only play dangerous sports if they have the risk tolerance to do so. Any sport that could be considered dangerous should not be required by the physical education of a school, for instance. With that being said, dangerous sports are certainly exciting, and that is what draws so many people to them.

  • Tolerance /ˈtɒlərəns/(n) : sự chịu được

Ex: She had no tolerance for jokes of any kind.

What else can people do to keep fit besides sports?

There are many things that people can do to stay fit besides just sports, and those are generally things that are simply referred to as “exercise”. This can range from walking or running, to going to the gym and training with weights. It could also include some other things that are sometimes referred to as games, such as skipping.
