Do you often use social networking sites?
Yes, absolutely. I mean, who doesn’t? I use many platforms like Facebook, Zalo and Instagram. I think the main reason I use social media is to stay in touch with others and to stay updated on what is going on in the world around me.
Do social networking sites have disadvantages?
Sure. The most obvious one, for me, is that it is really time-consuming. I know social networks are supposed to be fun, but the fact is I am wasting my precious time logging in to such sites. And if I cannot manage my time well, my study and work will be badly affected too.
Do you think it is good to make friends online?
Well, I think whether it is labeled good or bad will depend on what people expect from a friend. If we just wish to share your thoughts, online friends can really help. But if you need something like “a friend in need is a friend indeed”, then it may not be a good idea because online friends cannot offer you any emotional support.
What do you often use social networking sites for?
As I mentioned earlier, most of the time I use social media to keep in touch with other people and keep abreast of the times. Apart from that, I also view those platforms as a huge source of entertainment and a convenient way to do some online shopping as well.

Do you think that some people spend too much time on social media?
I do. I’ve watched lots of youtubers share about their addiction to social media. You know, the very first thing that they’re gonna do the moment they wake up is to grab their phone and check the newest posts from their friends, idols or some celebrities that they are following on Instagram, Twitter, or TikTok. And I myself used to experience a time when I was kind of addicted to those social platforms because of the you-know-what: the fear of missing out.
Have you ever tried dating via social media?
Frankly speaking, yes. I did once when I was in the first year of college. As a girl who loved being delusional about her college love life, I constantly tried to find a boyfriend, you know, my prince charming. After listening to my friends’ advice to look for my significant other on Facebook, I really did give it a try. However, much to my surprise, it was rather a terrible experience that I just want to forget at all cost.
What are the advantages of social networking sites?
They definitely have some undeniable merits. First of all, they connect everyone. If it were not for those social platforms, students who have to study far from home like me will be so homesick that we can’t do anything but cry all day long. Furthermore, they can provide people with an open space to exchange knowledge, viewpoints and other stuff. I have joined some discussions on those sites and thanks to that, I have developed a good habit of viewing an issue from various angles.
What’s the most popular social networking site among Vietnamese young people?
According to my own observation, TikTok has gained the best popularity among the youth, compared to other platforms. I will attribute its tremendous growth to the fast-paced nature of it. You know, as the attention span of young people has narrowed noticeably over the past few years, they want something that is visually attractive and quick cut and does not contain too much information so that they can digest it easily. And TikTok meets all of their requirements. However, to be honest, I am not the biggest fan of this site since I often catch myself retaining nothing after 3 hours of scrolling through hundreds of TikTok videos.
