Biến đổi từ (word formation)

Đây là dạng bài yêu cầu người học xác định chính xác loại từ cần điền vào chỗ trống, dựa trên ngữ cảnh của câu và đoạn văn. Các từ loại cần được xác định có thể là danh từ, tính từ, động từ hoặc trạng từ. Để làm bài này tốt, người học cần phải hiểu rõ các tiền tố và hậu tố thông dụng, như -tion, -ment, -ness, hoặc các tiền tố như un-, dis- để giúp chuyển đổi từ đúng cách. Bên cạnh đó, người học cũng cần đặc biệt chú ý đến các từ bất quy tắc, vì những từ này có thể không theo quy luật chung và cần ghi nhớ một cách chính xác. Việc làm quen với các dạng từ và các cấu trúc từ vựng sẽ giúp người học làm bài hiệu quả hơn.

Bài đọc điền từ (Open cloze test)

Trong bài đọc điền từ, người học sẽ phải đọc toàn bộ đoạn văn để nắm bắt được ý chính, từ đó xác định được loại từ cần điền vào các chỗ trống. Điều quan trọng là người học cần phải chú ý đến ngữ cảnh và vị trí của từ trong câu để chọn được từ loại phù hợp, chẳng hạn như danh từ, động từ, tính từ hay trạng từ. Người học cũng cần lưu ý đến các cấu trúc ngữ pháp phổ biến như mạo từ (a, an, the), giới từ (in, on, at), hoặc liên từ (although, because) để điền đúng từ. Sau khi điền, việc kiểm tra tính liên kết và sự trôi chảy của đoạn văn là rất quan trọng để đảm bảo bài viết không bị đứt đoạn, mất mạch. Điều này giúp đoạn văn trở nên mạch lạc, dễ hiểu hơn, và nâng cao khả năng đạt điểm cao.

Viết lại câu (rewrite sentences)

Dạng bài viết lại câu yêu cầu người học phải hiểu rõ ý nghĩa của câu gốc và lựa chọn cấu trúc ngữ pháp phù hợp để thay đổi câu sao cho vẫn giữ nguyên được ý nghĩa ban đầu. Các cấu trúc ngữ pháp có thể bao gồm câu bị động, câu điều kiện, câu tường thuật, câu so sánh, v.v. Việc sử dụng từ đồng nghĩa hoặc các cấu trúc tương đương là rất quan trọng, nhưng người học cần phải đảm bảo rằng từ ngữ và cấu trúc mới không làm thay đổi ý nghĩa của câu gốc. Đặc biệt, cần phải chú ý đến thì của động từ trong câu và đảm bảo rằng câu viết lại vẫn giữ nguyên được tính nhất quán về mặt thời gian và ý nghĩa. Khi viết lại câu, người học cũng cần chú ý đến sự linh hoạt trong việc thay đổi cấu trúc câu, nhưng vẫn phải đảm bảo rằng câu văn rõ ràng và dễ hiểu.
