How this person protects the environment

Ngoc lives pretty far from her office, about 8km, but she always tries to get up early in the morning to go to work by bicycle. She only uses her car under extreme weather conditions, for example a downpour or a heatwave. She said that cycling should be encouraged because it’s not only an environmentally friendly mode of transport, but also a great way to keep fit.

Apart from cycling, Ngoc has another habit and this one is kind of endearing. Whenever she goes out to buy a cup of bubble tea or coffee, she always brings her own ceramics cup or cloth bag. She explained that since plastic waste can take thousands of year to decompose, we should cut down on our use of plastic bags bottles to protect the life of marine species. Actually, I’ve known for quite along time about how marine life can be threatened by plastic waste which contaminates rivers and seas, but I didn’t think of such a simple and practical solution.

Needless to say, protecting the environment often means sacrificing your own comfort, which is a price not many people’re willing to accept. Having said that, I’m pleasantly surprised at how well my girlfriend gets used to it.

Like I said earlier, Ngoc has to wake up early to go to work by bikes, but as someone who already leads a healthy lifestyle, it’s not a big deal for her. Her abandonment of unnecessary plastic products also causes some inconvenience here and there, but since she mostly cooks her own meals, that’s not a huge problem either.

I really hope that there’ll be more and more people like her - those who have strong commitment in doing even the smallest things to save our planet.
