Cách trả lời Describe an experience trong IELTS Speaking Part 2

Trong bài thi IELTS Speaking, phần thi Part 2 được nhiều thí sinh đánh giá là khó vì khi nhận Cue Card từ giám khảo, thí sinh chỉ có 1 phút để chuẩn bị và phải độc thoại đến 2 phút. Do đó, bài viết ngày hôm nay sẽ giúp các bạn đọc có thể chuẩn bị tốt hơn cho phần thi này.

IELTS Speaking part 2 có rất nhiều chủ đề khác nhau, tuy nhiên về cơ bản, chúng có thể được gom lại thành các chủ đề chính như sau:

Bài này sẽ tập trung tìm hiểu về cách trả lời Describe an experience – Miêu tả một trải nghiệm nào đó.

Experience thường sẽ được chia làm 2 loại: positive (vui) và negative (buồn). Dưới đây sẽ là một số đề thi IELTS Speaking Pask 2 cho hai loại experience.

 Positive experience

Describe an occasion when you celebrated an achievement.

You should say:

1. What you achieved

2. How you celebrated it

3. Who you celebrated it with

4. And how you felt about it.

Describe an occasion when you spent time with your family.

You should say:

1. When it was

2. Who the child was

3. Why you spent some time with this child

4. And explain what you did and how you felt.

Describe a positive experience that you had as a teenager.

You should say:

1. What it was

2. When you had it

3. How you had it

4. And explain why this experience was positive for you.

Negative experience

Describe an experience which disappointed you.

You should say:

1. When it was

2. What exactly happened

3. Why it was disappointing to you

4. And explain how you felt about it.

Describe an occasion when you got angry.  

You should say:

1. Where and when it happened

2. What exactly made you angry

3. How you handled this situation

4. And explain how you felt and did then.

Describe a bad weather experience you have had.

You should say:

1. What sort of bad weather it was

2. When it happened

3. Where you were then

4. And explain how it affected you

Có tổng cộng 4 câu hỏi cần được trả lời trong phần IELTS Speaking Part 2 chủ đề Describe an event, tuy nhiên, đa phần 4 câu hỏi này lại chỉ tập trung trả lời cho 2 câu hỏi chính:

2 câu hỏi chính cần trả lời

1. What happened: Việc gì đã xảy ra trong sự kiện đó

2. How you felt: Tâm trạng lúc đó như thế nào

Trong quá trình chuẩn bị, thí sinh nên trang bị cho mình một câu chuyện có tính áp dụng cao, vừa có thể lái qua “positive” vừa có thể làm thành một câu chuyện “negative”. Trong câu chuyện đó, thí sinh cần đặc biệt chuẩn bị kỹ 2 phần trên (What happened và how you felt).

Về mặt cấu trúc của một câu trả lời, cách trả lời Describe an experience hoàn chỉnh nên gồm 3 phần:

1. Introduction

2. What happened

3. How you felt

Introduction

Well, the … (tên sự kiện đề bài yêu cầu) that I would like to share with you today is … (tên sự kiện sắp được mô tả)/when … (thông tin tổng quát về sự kiện đó)].

What happened

Phần này, thí sinh cần miêu tả các sự việc diễn ra trong sự kiện theo thứ tự thời gian, một số từ có thể dùng:

1. At the very beginning/ In the beginning/ First

2. After that/ Then, …

3. In the end/ Finally/ Eventually …

How you felt

Sau khi trình bày diễn biến sự việc, thí sinh cần miêu tả diễn biến cảm xúc của bản thân và lý do cảm thấy như thế. 

Một số từ vựng chỉ cảm xúc:

Positive: 

1. Delighted / dɪˈlaɪtɪd /: rất hạnh phúc

2. Overjoyed / ˌoʊvərˈdʒɔɪd /: cực kỳ hứng thú.

3. Excited / ɪkˈsaɪtɪd /: phấn khích, hứng thú

4. Over the moon /ˈoʊ.vɚ ðə muːn/ : rất sung sướng

5. On cloud nine /ɑːn klaʊd naɪn/: rất hạnh phúc, “bay lên 9 tầng mây”

6. Negative:Apprehensive /ˌæprɪˈhensɪv / hơi lo lắng

7. Embarrassed / ɪmˈbærəst / hơi xấu hổ

8. Frustrated /frʌ’streɪtɪd/ tuyệt vọng

9. Lose my head /luːz maɪ hed/: mất kiểm soát được cảm xúc tiêu cực

Introduction: Well, the occasion when I celebrated the greatest achievement in my life so far that I would like to share with you today is when I got accepted to Foreign Trade University – one of the most prestigious schools in Vietnam.

[Background information – Giải thích lý do vì sao có buổi tiệc này. Phần này không bắt buộc nhưng nó có thể giúp tăng logic của bài và giúp giám khảo có thể dễ hiểu phần nói sau đó dễ hơn] As you know, getting accepted from university is a big achievement in every person’s life, especially in Vietnam because it would mainly determine our future. So important was the event that my family decided to organize a celebration for me. 

What happened: We spent ages organizing a small celebration and asked for the help of my relatives as well. We started by cleaning up and decorating the small garden with a streamer and many balloons. We installed the setup with tables and chairs as well. After that, I helped my mom bake my favorite apple pie and make many Vietnamese specialities. I then proceeded to buy snacks and beverages for the party. At 6 pm, we started to welcome guests, including my classmates and some of my parents’ friends. During the party, we enjoyed the food, played games, and had a lot of fun. Of course, the most interesting part was when everyone congratulated me on my outstanding achievement.  

What you felt: I have to admit that I was nervous in the beginning since I had never organized any celebration before. However, it turned out to be one of my best memories ever. I would like to thank my family and friends profusely for spending time and effort celebrating such a wonderful party for me.

Negative experience

Với đề về negative experience, thí sinh có thể sử dụng lại câu chuyện như trên. Tuy nhiên, cần cắt ngắn phần “what happened”, đổi kết cục lại để nó trở thành một kỷ niệm đáng thất vọng và giải thích tại sao mình lại có cảm giác đó.

Describe an experience which disappointed you

Introduction: Well, a disappointing experience that I would like to share with you today is when I was going to have a celebration for my acceptance to Foreign Trade University – one of the most prestigious schools in Vietnam. 

That happened: My family and I spent agesorganizing a small celebration. We started by cleaning up and decorating the garden. After that, I helped my mom make many Vietnamese specialities. I then proceeded tobuy snacks and beverages for the party. 

The party was about to start at 6 pm. However, it started to rain cats and dogsat about 5:30 pm and it lasted for the whole evening, until about 9 pm. As a result, many guests could not come to join the party, including my classmates and my best friends. 

What you felt: Needless to say, I was very disappointed because we already put a lot of time and effort setting up and making delicious food. Therefore, I felt like I wasted the time and money of many people. The incident also made me feel a bit embarrassed in front of my family.
