The table gives information about the percentage of first year students who rated different aspects of their course as being ‘very good’.

Overall, students studying Commerce appeared to be the most pleased with the resources provided by the college for their course.

An average of 94% of first year students studying Commerce found that their pre-course information, teaching, and tutor were very good, while just over 80% found the printed resources and other resources to also be very good. Meanwhile, around 70% of Law students found their printed resources, tutor, and pre-course information to be at a very good standard. Around 60% rated the teaching as being very good, while 80% rated the other resources as very good.

However, only 60% of Economics students found their pre-course information and other resources to be very good. The teaching and tutor were rated very good by at least 90% of students, compared to just over 80% who voted the printed resources as being very good.

There are some people who believe that the best way to minimise traffic accidents and increase safety on the road is to increase the minimum legal age for having a car or motorbike licence. Personally, I completely disagree with this idea for several reasons which will be outlined below. 

Firstly, while there are many accidents on the road that are caused by young people, I do not believe that restricting them from driving a motorbike or car until a later age will have any serious impact on the current rate of traffic accidents. Certainly, many young people lack adequate experience driving in busy traffic, however stopping them from getting their licence until a later age does not allow them to gain the necessary driving experience which they need in order to drive safely. By allowing young people to drive on the road and gain the experience they need, the risk of a traffic accident occurring will be reduced.

Furthermore, traffic accidents are generally caused by people of all ages and are quite often due to other issues besides experience, such as poor concentration, dangerous driving, or a lack of awareness and skill. Old people, in particular, are more likely to suffer from poor concentration and lack of awareness, when compared to younger people who tend to have a better general awareness of their surroundings, and have a higher level of physical ability and reaction timing. Additionally, dangerous driving is likely to be performed by anyone at any age, not necessarily young people.

In conclusion, it is believed that age is not necessarily the main factor when it comes to traffic accidents, and therefore increasing the minimum age for driving is not the best way to increase road safety.
