I would love to tell you about one of the biggest influencers that I really admire. Her name is Linh, and her artist name is tlinh. She is known as a rapper, dancer, singer and perhaps also a songwriter.

• (Where and when you heard him/her sing for the first time)

I think it was the summer 2 years ago when I first heard her sing. At that time, there was still social isolation in Vietnam, and staying at home too much made me feel really terrible. And that’s when a TV show called Rap Viet was broadcasted. It is a rap competition where underground rappers join and compete with each other about their ability to write rap songs and perform them on the stage, and Linh was the only female in that competition and is almost a newbie in rapping. But the judges commented that she really had an ear for music. I think it was her first debut as a rapper too.

• (What types of song she/he sings)

Although Linh is famous for her rap, she doesn’t limit herself to only one genre of music. On her youtube channels, there are a lot of videos in which she performs ballad music, soul music, r&b, etc. But whatever genre it is, she always incorporates some hip-hop vibe into her artwork, which makes her performance really unique to other Vietnamese singers. 

• (Why you like his/her music)

I am a fan of her music because it is outstanding. It is contemporary, bold and edgy, which is really relatable to the young generation, Gen Z. Through her music, she touches on sensitive problems and challenges the prejudices toward women, especially in Vietnamese society. It is very women-empowering. But above all, the biggest reason that I really love her music is its genuineness. Her music is a representation of her personality and her life, which really makes her my role model.
