Cách dùng đúng:
give someone something = tặng ai cái gì
give something to someone = tặng cái gì cho ai
Không dùng give for someone khi muốn nói “tặng ai đó”.
Câu đúng: I usually give my friends practical gifts.
(hoặc) I usually give practical gifts to my friends.
Lý do sai: Động từ give không đi với for someone trong nghĩa “tặng cho ai”. Ta dùng give someone something hoặc give something to someone.
2) it’s the thought that counts
Lỗi thường gặp: “For me, the thought is count.”
Cách dùng đúng:
It’s the thought that counts = tấm lòng mới là điều quan trọng
Đây là một cụm cố định, dùng khi muốn nói giá trị tinh thần quan trọng hơn bản thân món quà.
Không đổi thành the thought is count hoặc the thought counts is important.
Câu đúng: For me, it’s the thought that counts.

Lý do sai: Đây là một idiom cố định. Counts ở đây là động từ, mang nghĩa “quan trọng”, nên không dùng is count.

Cách dùng đúng:
something related to + noun/V-ing = thứ gì đó liên quan đến điều gì
Dùng khi nói chọn quà dựa trên sở thích, tính cách hoặc nhu cầu của người nhận.
Không dùng related with trong cách diễn đạt này.
Câu đúng: I usually choose something related to their hobbies.
(hoặc) I like choosing gifts related to the person’s interests.
Lý do sai: Sau related, giới từ tự nhiên và chính xác nhất là to. Cụm này rất hữu ích khi nói về việc chọn quà cá nhân hóa.
