Introduction

I would like to talk about a time when I saved a bus seat for a pregnant lady.

What situation it was

It was a rainy day around 3 years ago when I was still a freshman at university. On a bus trip from my dormitory to the city center to attend a music festival sponsored by Heneiken, I met a pregnant lady who got on the bus at one of the stations. The lady’s face suddenly turned pale and she had to hold on to the handrail tightly. Sweat was rolling off her forehead.

Who were there

At that time, the bus was already swarming with students, and many of them even had to stand as there were not enough seats for all. In that stuffy atmosphere, the lady’s face suddenly turned pale and she had to hold on to the handrail tightly. Sweat was rolling off her forehead.

Why you had to be polite 

If the lady had stood for a long time, that would have affected not only her health but also her baby inside. At that moment, I don’t allow myself to be carefree and ignore her. I always thought of my mom’s advice to pay close attention to things around me and provide support to people at the right time as it could be very meaningful. 

How you showed politeness

Without hesitation, I stood up and asked her to take my seat. Then I quickly opened the glass window, trying to release the heat from inside the bus. After taking a deep breath, the lady seemed to feel better and started to have conversation with me. She thanked me a lot for saving her the seat. Without a place to sit on the bus, she thought she would have fainted because of dizziness.

Conclusion 

Therefore, at the end of that day, I was still thrilled because I had helped not only one, but two people. I mean the mom and her baby.

• Dormitory : a building for college students to live in

• A music festival: a community event oriented towards live performances of singing and instrument playing

• Swarming with: to be full of something

• stuffy atmosphere warm in an unpleasant way and without enough fresh air

• sponsor (tài trợ): (of a business or other organization) to pay for someone to do something or for something to happen

Example: The company agreed to sponsor the local soccer team's uniforms. (Công ty đã đồng ý tài trợ đồng phục cho đội bóng đá địa phương.)

• pale (tái nhợt): used to describe a person's face or skin if it has less colour than usual, for example when the person is or ill or frightened

Example: After feeling unwell, her face turned pale, and she decided to see a doctor. (Sau khi cảm thấy không khỏe, khuôn mặt của cô ấy trở nên tái nhợt, và cô ấy quyết định đi thăm bác sĩ.)

• handrail (lan can tay nắm): a long, narrow bar of wood or metal that people can hold on to for support, especially when going up or down stairs

Example: The staircase is safer with a sturdy handrail to hold onto while climbing. (Bậc thang trở nên an toàn hơn với thanh lan chắc chắn để nắm khi đi lên.)

• roll off (lăn xuống): moves down along a surface

Example: The ball started to roll off the table and onto the floor. (Quả bóng bắt đầu lăn khỏi bàn và rơi xuống sàn nhà.)

• swarming (đầy, tràn ngập)

Example: The picnic area was swarming with families enjoying a sunny day. (Khu vực dã ngoại đang đầy ắp gia đình đang tận hưởng một ngày nắng.)

• stuffy atmosphere (bầu không khí ngột ngạt): 

Example: The small room had a stuffy atmosphere, and we decided to open the windows for fresh air. (Phòng nhỏ có một không khí ngột ngạt, và chúng tôi quyết định mở cửa sổ để có không khí tươi mới.)

• carefree (vô tư, không quan tâm): having no problems or not being worried about anything

Example: During the vacation, we enjoyed a carefree day at the beach, with no worries or stress. (Trong kỳ nghỉ, chúng tôi đã có một ngày thoải mái ở bãi biển, không lo lắng hay áp lực.)

• pay close attention to (hết sức tập trung vào cái gì đó): to watch, listen to, or think about something carefully

Example: It's important to pay close attention to the instructions before assembling the furniture. (Chú ý kỹ lưỡng đến hướng dẫn trước khi lắp ráp đồ nội thất thì rất quan trọng)

• fainted (yếu, sắp ngất): to feel weak, as if you are about to become unconscious

Example: The heat was overwhelming, and she fainted during the outdoor event. (Nhiệt độ quá cao, và cô ấy ngất xỉu trong sự kiện ngoài trời.)

• dizziness (choáng): a temporary feeling that your sense of balance is not good and that you may fall down

Example: Standing up too quickly can sometimes lead to a brief sensation of dizziness. (Đứng dậy quá nhanh đôi khi có thể gây ra cảm giác chóng mặt.)

• thrilled (rất vui): extremely happy about something

Example: She was thrilled to receive the unexpected gift from her friend. (Cô ấy rất phấn khích khi nhận được món quà bất ngờ từ bạn.)
