The provided line chart illustrates textile fibers demand over the globe, namely Polyester, Cotton, Cellulosic and Wool from 1980 to 2015.
Overall, the demand for Polyester, Cotton and Cellulosic rose over the period shown. In contrast, Wool witnessed a slight reduction in terms of the demand for fibers. Among them, there were dramatic growth in the figures for Polyester and Cotton.
Looking at the figures for more detail, in 1980, the global demand for Cotton was the highest figure with approximately 15 million tons, making it the most popular fibers in four sectors. From 1980 to 1999, Cotton experienced a stable increase in the figure to roughly 30 million tons, after which the demand for Cotton declined minimally to over 20 million tons. Then, that of Cotton climbed gradually and reached the highest point of over 30 million tons at the end of the period. Meanwhile, the demand for Polyester started in second position in 1980. However, Polyester saw the most enormous growth in the figure for fibers, yet more significant than Cotton in 1995. From 1995 to 2015, Polyester had a sharp upward trend in the demand of textile and gained about 70 million tons in 2015.
In 1980, the demands for Cellulosic and Wool were almost the same, but they followed the opposite patterns at the same pace, at around 5 million tons. From 2000 to 2015, there was a slight improvement in the figure for the demand for fibers to about 10 million tons. Whereas, that of Wool decreased to almost no demand at the end of the period.
