On October 31, 2011, the 7 billionth citizen of the planet was born, and on November 15, 2022, the world's population officially surpassed the 8 billion mark. These statistics serve as a warning about the current population expansion and indicate a variety of problems, including ignorance, "respect for men and women," and other contributing factors. As a result, there have been numerous detrimental impacts.
First and foremost What I prioritize as its consequence is starvation. Approximately 800 million people worldwide are malnourished, and 2.8 billion people live on less than $2 per day. In actuality, "famishedness" always manifested in heavily populated locations. Finding a way to feed 7 billion people is difficult in the modern world. 1 billion people globally still lack access to enough food, according to UN statistics. And how can we boost food production to provide enough for more than 7 million people now, especially without further hurting the environment? This is the question that is thought to be unsolvable.
Second, population growth may pose threats to global security. The burden of slowing the economy, the challenge of creating jobs, and the overburden of public services and health care give governments of densely populated nations headaches. Political unrest brought on by high unemployment will jeopardize both domestic and international security. Because of the social, economic, and political unrest that migration and refugee movements bring about, instability does not only exist in densely populated nations but also spreads to wealthy nations. Without a doubt, the population can lead to unsafe conditions and many consequences.
Last but not least, climate change is also something we should take into account. Although it is rarely brought up, population growth and greenhouse gas emissions are inextricably linked, especially in industrialized nations, where the richest 7% of people worldwide account for half of the global emissions. Due to increased demand for fossil fuels, increased food production, deforestation, and other factors, consumption and emissions rise with population. Attempts at population decline could significantly contribute to reducing global warming. A recent study found that halting population growth might result in a 16–29% reduction in world emissions. Beyond any doubt, the less population, the less climate change
Overall, the aforementioned is what I want to share with you about the serious causes of overpopulation. In my opinion, governments and people alike should take on a collective duty so that it may very well be possible to provide some answers to deal with this issue more quickly and effectively with an aim to achieve the common objective of "sustainable social development."
