People in many countries are spending less time with their families. What are the reasons? And the effects of this?

It is believed that people no longer spend sufficient time with their loved ones. In my following essay, I will examine the factors behind this trend and its related consequences.

There are various causes that explain why family time is on the decline. Firstly, adults are working overtime to make ends meet. The inflation resulting from the global economic downturn has made the price of foods, medicines, and other daily basic items much more costly than ever; thus leading to a higher living standard and heavier financial burden. This has forced people to lean on work for an amount of time to afford fundamental expenses. Consequently, the precious time for their spouse and offspring gradually decreased. For example, during the Tet holiday, lots of people choose to work throughout the day-offs instead of gathering and bonding with loved ones. Secondly, nowadays youngsters are under greater pressure from parents in the study, especially Asian children. They take extra classes after 8 long hours at school and most of the time, they are immersed in their homework. This explains why young people no longer engage in face-to-face conversations with their parents.

This phenomenon has detrimental impacts on family relationships. With the absence of family time, conflict could arise from minimum issues as individuals are unable to stay together or interact with others on a regular basis. As a result, the distance makes them no longer lend a sympathetic ear to each other, fueling mistrust and misunderstanding, even marital disharmony that may have long-lasting trauma on their children. Concerning the latter, the deterioration of a family could make a child more vulnerable to psychological problems such as depression or autism. For instance, many young people suffer from bullying in schools; however, they don’t want to share difficulties with moms or dads because their parents are overwhelmed with workloads. Eventually, they lose connection with their family members and feel lonely in their own homes.

In conclusion, tied-up work schedules and pressure in studies are reasons why people in today’s era are unable to dedicate more time to their families. This can weaken family bonds and badly affect youngsters in the long run.
