Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 2 Describe a shopping mall
Introduction + Where it is
I’m not a hardcore shopaholic, but when it comes to malls, Aeon Mall immediately springs to mind. It is a massive Japanese-owned shopping center nestled in the outskirts of the city, about a 20-minute drive from my house.
Shopaholic /ˌʃɒp.əˈhɒl.ɪk/ Người cuồng mua sắm
Outskirts /ˈaʊt.skɜːts/ Ngoại ô
Nestled in /ˈnes.əld ɪn/ Tọa lạc/nằm gọn ở (vị trí nào đó)
How often you go there, and what you buy from there
Because of the distance, I don't drop by every day. Instead, I find myself visiting Aeon Mall about twice a month, typically on weekends when I need some retail therapy after an exhausting week of work. Aeon Mall is an all-in-one complex, so it pretty much covers all my needs. Usually, I will browse through some fast-fashion retail chains to pick up some clothes, or hit the supermarket on the ground floor to stock up on snacks.
Retail therapy /ˈriː.teɪl ˌθer.ə.pi/ Mua sắm để giải tỏa căng thẳng
All-in-one complex /ɔːl.ɪn.wʌn ˈkɒm.pleks/ Khu phức hợp "mọi thứ trong một"
What types of people usually go there
As for the clientele, the mall attracts a remarkably diverse crowd. If you visit during the day, you’ll see teenagers flocking to the arcade centers or taking selfies in the photogenic food court. On the other hand, during the evening, the space is dominated by multi-generational families pushing strollers or young couples on date nights.
Arcade centers /ɑːˈkeɪd ˈsen.tər/ Khu vui chơi điện tử
Multi-generational family /ˌmʌl.ti.dʒen.əˈreɪ.ʃən.əl ˈfæm.əl.i/ Gia đình đa thế hệ
Why it is your favourite shopping mall
What sets this mall apart and makes it my absolute favorite is its unparalleled customer service and thoughtful design. Unlike other small and cramped downtown malls, this place is spacious with plenty of rest benches. Not only are the staff exceptionally polite, but the entire facility is also extremely clean. Spending a weekend afternoon there just wandering around and window-shopping never fails to recharge my batteries.
Customer service /ˌkʌs.tə.mə ˈsɜː.vɪs/ Dịch vụ chăm sóc khách hàng
Window-shopping /ˈwɪn.dəʊ ˌʃɒp.ɪŋ/Đi chơi ngắm đồ (không có ý định mua)
Câu trả lời mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 3 - Describe a shopping mall
Các câu hỏi Part 3 thường mang tính vĩ mô, đòi hỏi thí sinh phải phân tích sâu hơn về hành vi tiêu dùng trong xã hội.
Câu hỏi 1: Why do some people look down on shopping in local markets?
Sample Answer:
"I think the primary reason is the issue of hygiene and comfort. Traditional markets, while culturally rich, can sometimes be chaotic, damp, and smelly, especially in the wet markets section. In contrast, modern shopping malls offer pristine, air-conditioned environments. Furthermore, haggling is prevalent in local markets, which makes some consumers feel uncomfortable because they fear being overcharged. For peace of mind, they prefer the fixed-price policy at shopping centers."
hygiene /ˈhaɪ.dʒiːn/: Các điều kiện hoặc thói quen giúp duy trì sức khỏe và ngăn ngừa bệnh tật, đặc biệt thông qua việc giữ gìn vệ sinh sạch sẽ [1].
comfort /ˈkʌm.fət/:Sự tiện nghi, thoải mái.
haggling /ˈhæɡlɪŋ/ Hành động mặc cả, trả giá.
Câu hỏi 2: Do you think online shopping will completely replace traditional shopping malls in the future?
Sample Answer:
"I doubt that it will lead to a complete replacement. It's undeniable that e-commerce offers unmatched convenience and competitive pricing. However, visiting shopping malls provide an experience that a smartphone screen simply cannot replicate. Malls have evolved from mere retail spaces into social hubs where people gather to dine, watch blockbusters, and interact face-to-face. Therefore, while online platforms might dominate product sales, brick-and-mortar malls will survive by shifting their focus toward leisure and entertainment experiences."
e-commerce /ˌiːˈkɒm.ɜːs/ Thương mại điện tử.
social hub /sˈəʊʃəl hˈʌb/ Một trung tâm hoạt động xã hội, nơi mọi người thường tụ tập để gặp gỡ và giao lưu [2].
brick-and-mortar /brˈɪk ˈænd mˈɔːtɑː/ Mô hình kinh doanh truyền thống với cửa hàng vật lý [3].
Câu hỏi 3: What are the negative effects of the proliferation of shopping malls on young people?
Sample Answer:
“In my opinion, the rise of shopping complexes can inadvertently foster a materialistic mindset among the youths. Contrary to public facilities like parks or libraries, malls are first and foremost commercial hubs, so almost everything in there requires money. It is thus easy for young people to equate happiness with material possessions or wealth if the only place they visit is malls. These mega complexes also have many luxury brands meticulously designed to trigger impulse buying or FOMO. Therefore, too much exposure to shopping malls can distort a young person's sense of self-worth and lead to overspending on unnecessary high-street fashion or life style habits.”
impulse buying /ˈɪmpəls bˈaɪɨŋ/ Hành vi mua sắm ngẫu hứng, không có kế hoạch.
