Children’s education is expensive. In some countries, the government pay some of or all of the costs. Do the advantages outweigh its disadvantages?
--------------------
Nowadays, governments have the tendency to cover all the costs of education for students as children’s education is expensive in some countries. Although this trend has some disadvantages, I believe its merits outweigh its demerits.
Firstly, there are several negative consequences when students are given financial support from governments. Funding students’ education can place more burdens on the national budget, and therefore, it may be necessary for governments to impose higher taxes to avoid a budget deficit. This can result in reduced productivity and incentives for individuals and businesses to work hard and invest in their enterprises. Moreover, if students are not under the pressure of tuition fees, they are more likely to be dependent on the government’s help, in turn, lack responsibility for their future careers as well as their dreams.
Despite having some drawbacks, I believe the advantages of this trend are greater than its disadvantages. Financial incentives in education can encourage students from underprivileged backgrounds but have a good academic achievement to achieve their goals without wasting their potential. In Vietnam, there are numerous students who are given opportunities to study without paying tuition fees, proving themselves and getting high results in the National high school exam. Furthermore, when government covers all the costs of education, students may have equal educational backgrounds, therefore, creating a well-educated workforce and a prosperous country.
In conclusion, even though funding a large amount of money on education may place a burden on governments, I believe its advantages outweigh its disadvantages as this trend creates more opportunities for poor children to pursue their academic goals.
