The diagrams illustrate the layout of a college cafe before and after it was redesigned. Overall, the cafe underwent significant changes with new facilities being introduced and seating areas being , while the kitchen and the toilets remained unchanged. The food service area was completely transformed. Before the redesign, the kitchen was located in the upper lefthand corner next to a serving area for all food and drink. Following the redesign, the kitchen remained in the same position but was expanded to include hot meals section. In addition, the original areas serving areas was replaced by several separate facilities including a salad bar, a takeaway food, and a coffee bar. The seating area also experienced considerable changes. Previously, two staff dining rooms occupied the center part of the cafe. Following the redesign, they were removed to create more space for customer seating. Furthermore, the outdoor seating area was added at the bottom of the cafe. Additionally, the barbeque area was introduced on the lefthand side, while the original bin was converted into recycling bins. Finally, the toilets remained the same.
