Some people think students should study the science of food and how to prepare it. Others think students should spend time on important subjects. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
People have different views about whether students should study food science and how to prepare it or focus on key subjects that can boost their career prospects. Personally, I am in favor of the latter opinion.
On the one hand, there are certain benefits from the study of food. To begin with, scientific knowledge about food helps students have a balanced diet. Because when students understand how food constituents like proteins, fats, carbohydrates affect their physical condition, they know what types of nutrition are better for their health. As a result, students will create a healthy eating habit due to consuming an amount of food containing the essential nutrition in their daily meals. Besides, food science relates to preparation methods that guide students know about food safety. Specifically, students can learn about the proper way of treating or cooking food, as well as how to preserve and contain them appropriately to prevent bacterial growth. Consequently, students who are proficient with culinary skills will be able to live independently, they can cook healthy food to take care of themselves at home instead of eating processed food at convenience stores.
On the other hand, I believe that students should dedicate their time to the learning of main subjects. In fact, Math, Literature and English are compulsory subjects for students to prepare for the high school entrance exam. Those who are good at studying the abovementioned core subjects may be able to gain admission to one of the most prestigious high schools. Furthermore, academic subjects not only provide an individual with the foundational knowledge but also help them smoothly transit into a professional working environment. For example, English is a crucial skill that we should have to make an impression on recruiters when applying for a job in large companies. Recent research has indicated that the average income of those with high professional qualification and proficiency in foreign languages is higher than that of unskilled laborers or the general workforce. Therefore, a successful career is a realistic possibility when one focuses diligently on the important subjects at school.
In conclusion, despite the several benefits offered by food science and culinary skills in students’ learning process, I still believe that they should devote their time mainly to core subjects.
