Space exploration là một chủ đề mang tính khoa và vì vậy có thể gây khó khăn cho thí sinh trong việc tìm kiếm ý tưởng và lựa chọn từ vựng the chủ đề. Lưu ý: Technology có thể được sử dụng với 2 hình thái – danh từ đếm được và không đếm được. Khi dùng ở dạng không đếm đươc, từ này chỉ công nghệ nói chung, còn khi sử dụng ở dạnh đếm được, từ này nói về một công nghệ cụ thể, như tàu vũ trụ.

Ví dụ:

• Modern technology which has been applied in different fields such as transportation and communication makes lives more convenient for humans. 

• With computer technologies, even people working on their own can produce professional-looking documents. 

Space exploration (noun-noun): sự thám hiểm không gian

Lưu ý: Exploration là danh từ có thể được chia ở hai hình thái đếm được và không đếm được. Khi dùng ở dạng không đếm được, từ này chỉ sự thăm dò, khám phá, còn khi dùng ở dạng đếm được, từ này mang nghĩa một chuyến đi thám hiểm, khám phá.

Ví dụ:

• The exploration for new sources of energy is vital for the future of our planet. 

• Scientists hope that data from the probe will pave the way for a more detailed exploration of Mars.

Space discovery (noun-noun): Sự khám phá không gian

Lưu ý: Discovery cũng là một danh từ có thể được chia ở hai hình thái đếm được và không đếm được. Khi dùng ở dạng không đếm được, từ này chỉ sự khám phá, phát hiện, ám chỉ về mặt hành động, còn khi dùng ở dạng đếm được, từ này mang nghĩa một phát kiến cụ thể, chẳng hạn phát kiến ra các định luật trong vật lí.

Ví dụ:

• The discovery of gold in California opened up the west.

• Many scientific discoveries have been made by accident.

The applications of satellites (noun-prep-noun): các ứng dụng của vệ tinh

Ví dụ: Research on space field has led to some satisfactory results, one of which is the applications of satellites

Lưu ý: Đối với collocation số 4 người đọc cũng có thể viết lại idea (paraphrase) bằng cách chuyển cụm danh từ sang mệnh đề Subject + Verb

Ví dụ: 

• The applications of satellites -> How satellites are used in different fields

• -> Research on space field has led to some satisfactory results, one of which is how satellites are used in different fields.

Ngoài ra, các bạn cũng cần lưu ý rằng từ Application có tương đối nhiều nghĩa, sau đây là một vài nghĩa thường được sử dụng:

1. Application (Countable noun): Ứng dụng trên các thiết bị như máy tính, điện thoại

Ví dụ: Applications such as word processor and media player are indispensable when using a computer.

2. Application (Noun): Đối với nghĩa thứ hai này sẽ có hai hình thái chia danh từ. Nếu là danh từ không đếm được sẽ mang nghĩa việc ứng dụng, áp dụng, còn khi là danh từ đếm được sẽ mang nghĩa cách ứng dụng, áp dụng.

Ví dụ:

• The government is funding the application of this research in the treatment of cancer

• The new medicine has many applications regarding diseases.

3. Application (Countable Noun): Đơn xin

Ví dụ: I’ve sent off applications for four different jobs.

Data transmission and reception (noun-noun-noun): việc truyền và tiếp nhận dữ liệu

Ví dụ: Data reception and transmission via satellites is essential to the internet and mobile phones.

Lưu ý: cả hai danh từ Reception và Transmission đều là từ đa nghĩa, do đó tác giả sẽ giới thiệu một vài nghĩa phổ biến đến các thí sinh:

1. Reception (Uncountable noun): Việc tiếp nhận ai hoặc cái gì

Ví dụ: The new hospital was ready for the reception of its first patients.

2. Reception (Countable noun): một buổi tiệc trang trọn để đón tiếp, chiêu đãi ai

Ví dụ: The mayor offered to host a reception for the delegates.

3. Transmission (Noun): Khi được dùng như là danh từ không đếm được, từ này mang nghĩa việc truyền tín hiệu, dữ liệu, còn khi được dùng ở dạng đếm được, từ này mang nghĩa buổi phát sóng trên TV hoặc radio.

Ví dụ:

• The invention of internet has made it easier for data transmission throughout all over the world

• We apologize for the interruption to our transmissions this afternoon.

Satellite-based navigation system (adjective-noun-noun): hệ thống định vị vệ tinh

Ví dụ: Satellite-based navigation system, such as GPS, enables anyone with a handheld device to identify their location within seconds

1. Solar panel (noun-noun): tấm pin mặt trời

Ví dụ: Solar panels collect clean renewable energy in the form of sunlight and convert that light into electricity 

2. Solar arrays (noun-noun): tập hợp các tấm năng lượng mặt trời 

3. Reflection and absorption (noun-noun): hiện tượng phản xạ và hấp thụ ánh sáng mặt trời

Ví dụ: whereas a considerable amount of incoming solar energy is lost on its way through the earth’s atmosphere by reflection and absorption, space station solar arrays would absorb the solar power altogether

Solar collector (noun-noun): máy thu năng lượng mặt trời

Ví dụ: A solar collector in space can produce power continuously as there is no night.

1. Earth’s atmosphere (noun-noun): bầu khí quyển trái đất

Ví dụ: About 29 percent of the solar energy that arrives at the top of the Earth’s atmosphere is reflected back to space by clouds, atmospheric particles, or bright ground surfaces like sea ice and snow.

Investing in space field has led to some satisfactory results, one of which is the applications of satellites. Today, we can use internet for various purposes, especially for information exchange. This is only possible because of the data transmission and reception via satellites. In addition, humans can also use satellites for weather forecast which allows people to plan a better schedule for their day. Furthermore, satellite-based navigation system, such as GPS, enables anyone with a handheld device to identify their location within seconds. This technology not only is more convenient but also saves more time compared to reading a printed map, especially when people are in a hurry. 

Space technologies have even solved one of our critical issues nowadays- energy crisis. Today, the depletion of fossil fuels can be better addressed by an advanced technology called space-based solar power. Unlike solar panels placed on household roofs that can only generate electricity during the day, a solar collector in space can produce power continuously as there is no night. Moreover, whereas a considerable amount of solar energy is lost on its way through the earth’s atmosphere by reflection and absorption, space station solar arrays ,a collection of multiple solar panels , would absorb the solar power altogether. In other words, the new technology promises higher efficiency in generating green energy. At present, despite the tremendous cost and technological limitations, in the future, further funding for such projects can ensure unlimited and sustainable power supply for humankind.
