Talk about your dream job - A pharmaceutical scientist

Oh, a dream job? I’ve thought about it quite a lot and that’s why I’m pretty sure I’d like to become a pharmaceutical scientist. Even though I haven’t achieved it, I would like to tell you about my journey to get a foot in the field. To clarify, it’s different from pharmacists with whom you usually interact when you need a prescription. A pharmaceutical scientist’s role is to discover novel drugs or develop therapeutics.

So how did I come up with that idea? It began with my genuine passion for therapeutics. I remember being bedridden for months with severe bacterial bronchitis in the pediatric department. I got better only after I tried a new antibiotic. I was really curious how one medication had improved my condition when others had failed. How and why did the drug work? What is the chemistry and biology behind all of this?

I was drawn to Chemistry and Biology since then and I knew I had to pursue a degree in biotechnology in college to understand how life sciences and technology tackle the real-life challenge. During my undergraduate year, I learned how to become a team player and adapt to a heavy schedule to maintain a work-life balance.

Also, I have gained hands-on research experience with molecular and cellular experiments that I was attracted to the complex interactions between inflammation and tumor progress. I was thinking a lot about the increasing burden of cancers in Vietnam over the last decades which has exhibited the highest rates of cancer mortality (in lung cancer). So I hope to pursue graduate studies and an R&D position to develop novel therapeutics and contribute to minimizing this public health issue in the near future.

After spending 4 years studying the English language at the university, I plan to go to the UK to earn a TESOL degree, which is all about the training course of teaching English.

I think this job suits me well because I love teaching children. At home, I often teach English and literature to my younger sisters. When educating young children, I think I can evoke their enthusiasm and interest in English by creating a favorable environment for learning and organizing meaningful and fun activities. 

Besides teaching language, I can help my students understand better about English culture, which is essential for them to become international citizens. I'm fascinated to support them in developing both hard skills. 

Being a teacher is my ideal job, but I know there are lots of difficulties on the way. However, I'm sure I can fulfil my dream. I will try my best to improve my knowledge and skills in order to be a successful teacher.

Becoming a lawyer is a fascinating career that has to do with giving those in need of legal assistance and support services. The individuals doing the work are highly skilled and appreciated by the public.

A skilled lawyer may need a variety of abilities, such as public speaking, given that part of his job involves delivering speeches in front of crowds. The ability to think critically and be creative are two of the most essential traits of a good lawyer.

Therefore, I worked extremely hard to get into Law University in order to realize my dream. A large number of students in Vietnam are also working on their legal degrees. After graduation, I plan to be employed by a legal firm or develop a relationship with larger businesses to serve as an in-house attorney.

I know this career is full of challenges and difficulties. However, I’m determined that I will put all of my efforts to achieve it.

I’m keen on listening to different kinds of musical genres. Even though I can listen to any kind of music, Lana Del Rey is my all-time favourite. She not only has a melancholic voice but she is also a kind person. She has set a good example for me to become a singer.

First, I think I have to develop my singing and performance skills to become a singer. That's I have enrolled in a vocal class to improve my singing and songwriting abilities here. Appearance is crucial to a singer, too. I know it's hard for a singer to always keep their body in good shape. However, without an attractive appearance, a singer can not gain the attention of the audience.

Moreover, I believe a singer must have the ability to cope with stress and crisis. Sometimes, a star is criticized for their career or even for personal issues, so it's important to not panic and plan strategies to deal with the backlash, especially on social media.

Confidence is one of my advantages, and I think it is another important quality for a singer. This quality can help a singer in marketing themselves and their music to fans on social media or to prospective managers.

I have to learn and practice more to become a singer. One day, I believe my dream will become true.

Their duty is to rapidly spot and fix problems, which are frequently the result of a coding fault. Besides, I'm also interested in the cybersecurity field, helping to detect harmful software and fix programs that may be hacked.

As a computer programmer, I must be able to work well in a team because when developing a program, I must explain difficult technical ideas to my colleagues and non-technical customers. Hence, one of the key factors is communication. 

More than that, this industry is changing rapidly. Every year, there are various new technology invented. I have to develop my soft skills, such as self-study to stay up with these changes. 

I'm pursuing a bachelor's degree in information technology. At university, I learn about programming languages, such as Java, C++...

Now I’m partnering with some businesses to help them fix software programs. At the same time, I'm creating my portfolio to demonstrate my ability and enhance my employability in the future. I would like to work remotely, which means I can work anywhere, as long as I have an Internet connection and a laptop.

To keep my body in good shape, I practice running a few kilometres every day. Sometimes, I try to incorporate jogging and riding into my exercise. It's also important to follow a strict diet including fish, eggs, fruit and vegetables, and avoid sugar and junk food.

This sport teaches me how to perform skilful movements like dribbling, turning and passing. Moreover, I love playing football because it requires a strong sense of teamwork and promotes confidence and self-esteem.

Understanding how a kitchen and restaurant operate is crucial to becoming a chef. But I'm also aware that this first position may involve boring tasks like cleaning up after meals and taking out the trash. 

In addition, the job of a chef requires the implementation and maintenance of hygienic procedures to guarantee that a kitchen stays clean and that the food customers receive is safe to eat. Luckily, I'm interested in maintaining the required health and safety standards. 

I feel happy and fulfilled when I see customers enjoy the meal I cook. It motivates me to be more creative and keep up to date with the industry's trends.

It requires a variety of skills needed to be a chef. I'm practising every day to master them one day.

Choosing to become a doctor requires years of committed study and medical training. I know I have a long way to go before becoming a doctor and working in a hospital. 

When enrolling in medical school, I will start a demanding course that equips me with the knowledge needed to become a doctor. In addition to spending a significant amount of time improving hard skills by remembering information on physiological functions, diseases, and recommended treatments, medical students are also expected to acquire critical soft skills.

Being a doctor also requires me to think critically and solve problems in order to discover answers to my patients’ problems. These abilities help me evaluate symptoms, identify diseases, and create treatment plans for patients. These abilities also enable medical professionals to evaluate data and make decisions based on the findings.

Now I'm starting my career as a junior salesman. I’m sharpening my skills and improving my knowledge to become a sales executive in the next 5 years.

In my opinion, both parents and teachers should work together to guide young people in their ways of choosing career paths. While teachers can see the potential of a student in an academic environment, parents can support their children in developing their passion in other aspects such as music, arts, fashion, et cetera. Therefore, if teachers and parents can concur and support children’s passion as well as help them to explore their potential, the children will likely be able to make their own career decision.
