I’m going to tell you about tiki.vn, which is a website I have bought a lot of stuff from.
Tiki is one of the most popular online retailers in Vietnam and its website has been widely used and favored by millions of users recently. It is very famous for the super-fast delivery service and a variety of authentic products with very reasonable prices. Their diverse products range from clothes to household items, but the most well-known is books. Almost every kind of books is available on Tiki, either Vietnamese or English books. And the greatest thing is that the price they offer is always 20-30% lower than in book stores. I have bought dozens of books on Tiki and never a time did I feel disappointed. I always received my orders within a day and they were all in good quality.
Last month, I decided to buy a new mobile phone as a self-reward after two months working extremely hard during the summer. Normally, I would go to the mobile store to properly examine the phone before making a decision to buy it or not. But this time, I made up my mind to try once buying an electronic item online to see how it would turn out to be. And I chose Tiki because the price on its website was 2 million Dong lower than in store. The process of purchasing was very simple as I could pay through online banking, which was super convenient. And the phone was delivered right on the next day with no breakage or errors at all.
Needless to say, I was absolutely satisfied. I think I will continue using this website in the future.

A. Shopping online
1. What kinds of things do people in your country often buy from online shops?
As far as I know, people often buy books and cosmetic products online. Books seem to be a common choice because we don’t need to worry about sizes or materials or colors like we have to when it comes to buying clothes online. And for cosmetics, those coming from famous brands are usually sold in big cities only, so people from distant areas can purchase them at local stores, and that is the reason why people would buy them online.
2. Why has online shopping become so popular in many countries?
I think convenience is the biggest perk. There is nowhere you can comfortably shop at midnight and with no lines of waiting for cashiers but online shops. All you need is a smartphone or a laptop connected to the Internet and you can find almost any item from any brand in any parts of the city, country or even world. No geographical barrier can hinder you from shopping now because everything can be done so easily with the help of the Internet. So there is no surprise why online shopping has gained such popularity these days.
3. What are some possible disadvantages of buying things from online shops?
Fraud in online shopping is probably the biggest problem. Without touching or seeing the product in real life, people can hardly be sure how such items are actually like. And sometimes, sellers try to mislead customers on purpose by posting fake images and descriptions. There are many cases in which customers receive an item which looks nothing like the image online but they can neither return it nor get the refund.
B. Online retail businesses
1. Do you agree that the prices of all goods should be lower on internet shopping sites than in shops?
It should be. Unlike physical stores, online shopping sites do not have to hire salespeople or rent locations. Therefore, the price of their products should be lower than in the traditional shops. Besides, in today’s competitive market, if online retailers want to promote their sales and outrun other competitors, they have to consider offering cheaper products. This is because buyers only want to shop wherever they can get the best price.
2. Will large shopping malls continue to be popular, despite the growth of internet shopping?
I’m sure they will. The biggest advantage shopping malls have over e-commerce is that customers can have wonderful experiences while going shopping in the mall, instead of buying online and waiting for goods to arrive. Actually, people go to shopping malls not only for the shopping purpose, but also for entertainment. This place can be used for family gatherings at the weekend with endless exciting events for people to be entertained. Also, shopping at a mall allows you to try on every piece of clothes and make sure it fits before you invest in it.
3. Do you think that some businesses (e.g banks and travel agents) will only operate online in the future?
I’m not so sure about this, but it’s possible. Since online payment has become extremely popular these days, every service now can be done online. And actually, it is even safer to use online banking services because people will no longer need to bring cash to the bank. I can also see that booking flight tickets online is gaining great popularity as it is super convenient and all information has already been fully available on the website. Regarding the advisory role of consultants, instead of having face-to-face interactions, customers can use a chatting system which allows them to interact with the staff easily.
