Key takeaways

  • Bài thi SAT kiểm tra từ vựng học thuật Tier 2.

  • Chủ đề từ vựng SAT thông dụng: Comparison, Difference & Classification: distant from, distinct, mimic, sophisticated, atypical, standard, criteria, diverse

Dạng bài Words in Context trong Digital SAT

  • Điền từ vào chỗ trống: Câu hỏi thường có dạng "Which choice completes the text with the most logical and precise word or phrase?" [1][2].

  • Tìm nghĩa của từ: Câu hỏi thường có dạng "As used in the text, what does the word 'x' most nearly mean?" [1][2]. Dạng bài này chỉ xuất hiện với thể loại đoạn văn Poem/Novel/Short story.

Chiến lược làm bài Words in Context trong Digital SAT

Exercise 3: Word Form

Fill in the blank with the correct form of the word in the bracket:

1. The prolonged __________________ (distant) between the two research communities has limited opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and the exchange of methodological expertise.

2. The researchers emphasized the need to establish a clear conceptual __________________ (distinct) between correlation and causation when interpreting the statistical findings.

3. The study identified one participant as an unusually effective __________________ (mimic), capable of reproducing the phonetic characteristics of unfamiliar speakers with remarkable accuracy.

4. As computational models become more __________________ (sophistication), researchers can identify patterns that would have remained undetectable using conventional analytical techniques.

5. Rather than indicating a methodological error, the apparent __________________ (atypical) of the results may reflect an environmental condition that was not present in earlier experiments.

6. Greater __________________ (standard) of data-collection procedures would allow findings from independently conducted studies to be compared more reliably.

7. Before the proposals can be evaluated, researchers must establish explicit __________________ (criterion) for determining whether each intervention is both effective and ethically defensible.

8. Greater __________________ (diversity) among members of the advisory panel could help prevent a single cultural or disciplinary perspective from dominating the discussion.

Key:

1. distancing

2. distinction

3. mimicker

4. sophisticated

5. atypicality

6. standardization

7. criteria

8. diversification

Exercise 4: SAT contextual word choice

Read each sentence carefully. Choose the most precise and logical word from the bracketed options [ Option A / Option B ] to complete the sentence based on its academic context.

1. Researchers maintained a sufficient [ distance / proximity ] between the experimental groups to prevent unintended interaction between the treatments.

2. Because the sample was relatively small, researchers were cautious about [ generalizing / standardizing ] their findings to the entire population.

3. A clear conceptual [ distinction / equivalence ] was established between correlation and causation, emphasizing that an association does not necessarily imply a causal relationship.

4. Participants from different linguistic backgrounds sometimes adopted a [ mimetic / suppressive ] approach when attempting to reproduce the pronunciation patterns of unfamiliar speakers.

5. Improvements in measurement instruments allowed researchers to detect extremely small changes in atmospheric composition with extreme [ precision / sophistication ].

6. A randomized sampling procedure ensured that participants were sufficiently [ representative / atypical ] of the broader population under investigation.

7. Several [ criteria / assumptions ] were established by the committee for determining whether the proposed policy would be considered successful.

8. Several university initiatives were introduced to promote greater [ inclusivity / diversity ] in its research programs, ensuring that students from different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds had equitable opportunities to participate.

Key:

1. distance (Context refers to maintaining physical separation between experimental groups; "proximity" refers to the state of being near or close to something).

2. generalizing (Context refers to applying findings from a sample to a broader population; "standardizing" refers to making procedures or measurements conform to a common standard).

3. distinction (Context refers to a clear conceptual difference between correlation and causation; "equivalence" refers to a state in which two things have the same value, meaning, or effect).

4.mimetic (Context refers to an approach involving the imitation or reproduction of another speaker's pronunciation patterns; "suppressive" refers to something that restrains, inhibits, or prevents an action or response).

5. precision (Context refers to the ability to detect or measure very small differences accurately; "sophistication" refers to a high level of complexity or development).

6. representative (Context refers to a sample that accurately reflects important characteristics of the broader population; "atypical" refers to something that is unusual or not characteristic of a group).

7. criteria (Context refers to standards used to evaluate whether a policy meets specified requirements; "assumptions" are beliefs accepted as true without direct proof).

8. inclusivity (Context refers to creating conditions in which people from different backgrounds are actively included and given equitable opportunities; "diversity" refers to the presence of people with different characteristics, backgrounds, or perspectives within a group).
