Key takeaways

  • Bài thi SAT kiểm tra từ vựng học thuật Tier 2.

  • Chủ đề từ vựng SAT thông dụng: Growth, Decline & Quantity: gain on, limited, multiply, price, lack, exceed, widespread, lucrative, universal, approximate, scale.

Dạng bài Words in Context trong Digital SAT

  • Điền từ vào chỗ trống: Câu hỏi thường có dạng "Which choice completes the text with the most logical and precise word or phrase?" [1][2].

  • Tìm nghĩa của từ: Câu hỏi thường có dạng "As used in the text, what does the word 'x' most nearly mean?" [1][2]. Dạng bài này chỉ xuất hiện với thể loại đoạn văn Poem/Novel/Short story.

Chiến lược làm bài Words in Context trong Digital SAT

Read each sentence carefully. Choose the most precise and logical word from the bracketed options [ Option A / Option B ] to complete the sentence based on its academic context.

1. Because several measurements were missing, the researchers could provide only an [ approximate / universal ] estimate of the total population.

2. The researchers had to [ scale / restrict ] the experimental model before applying it to a population ten times larger than the original study group.

3. The number of microorganisms in the sample began to [ multiply / stabilize ] rapidly after the temperature was increased.

4. The researchers had [ abundant / limited ] evidence to support their hypothesis: the research included data from more than 20 independent experiments, far exceeding the field average of 12.

5. Annual energy consumption in the region [ exceeded / fell short of ] the government's original projection by almost 12 percent due to a new wave of conservation habits by consumers.

6. The study identified a severe [ lack / abundance ] of reliable historical records concerning the population's migration patterns.

7. The researchers calculated the [ cost / price ] of conducting the experiment by adding laboratory fees, equipment rental, and personnel expenses.

8. The new educational model has only achieved [ widespread / isolated ] adoption among certain universities from its difficulty of implementation.

9. The researchers argued that the principle had considerable [ universality / specificity ], since it could be applied across a wide range of social and cultural contexts.

10. The long-term [ lucrativeness / instability ] of the investment depended largely on whether demand for the technology remained high.

11. As the company had several failed products, it began to [ gain on / fall behind ] its main competitor in several important markets.

Key:

1. approximate (The available data allowed the researchers to estimate the population only roughly; "universal" refers to something applicable to all relevant cases or groups).

2. scale (The researchers needed to expand the model so that it could operate with a substantially larger population; "restrict" means to limit the size, scope, or extent of something).

3. multiply (The microorganisms increased rapidly in number; "stabilize" means to become relatively constant or stop changing significantly).

4. abundant (The researchers possessed a large and plentiful body of supporting evidence; "limited" indicates that the amount or availability of something is restricted).

5. fell short of (The actual energy consumption was lower than the government's original projection because of consumer habits; "exceeded" means that something was higher than expected).

6. lack (The study found that reliable historical records were insufficiently available; "abundance" refers to the presence of something in large quantities).

7. cost (The sentence refers to the total amount of money required to conduct the experiment; "price" refers more specifically to the monetary amount charged for a good or service).

8. isolated (The educational model was only adopted in some universities; "widespread" describes something occurring in many locations).

9. universality (The principle could be applied across many different contexts rather than being restricted to particular conditions; "specificity" refers to the degree to which something applies only to particular conditions or cases).

10. lucrativeness (The sentence concerns the capacity of the investment to generate financial returns over time; "instability" refers to a lack of consistency or predictability).

11. fall behind (The company was progressively increasing the performance gap between itself and its competitor; "gain on" means to slowly catch up to another entity).
