Measure (noun/verb): đo lường, số đo

Định nghĩa

Trong hình học, measure là động từ chỉ hành động đo lường kích thước, không gian và các đại lượng khác. Một số đại lượng đo lường thường xuyên xuất hiện trong bài thi SAT bao gồm độ dài, góc, chu vi, đường kính, diện tích, thể tích,...

Tất cá các đại lượng khi đo lường đều được quy đổi về giá trị và đơn vị đo đại lượng tương ứng. Một số đại lượng đo có thể gặp trong bài thi SAT như:

• Chiều dài (length): meters (m), cm (m), foot - feet (ft), miles, yards, inches,...

• Thể tích (Volume): m³, gallon, litres (L)

• Diện tích: m² (square metres),...

Đo lường trực tiếp và gián tiếp

• Đo lường trực tiếp là phương pháp đo định lượng thông qua các thiết bị đo, và quan sát, đọc giá trị trực tiếp trên thang đo. 

• Đo lường gián tiếp là đo lường định tính, dựa trên các đại lượng có thể đo trực tiếp và tính bằng các công thức phụ thuộc.

Length (noun): chiều dài

Định nghĩa

Trong hình học, length được định nghĩa là chiều dài tính từ điểm xuất phát A đến điểm B (distance), hoặc chiều dài của một đại lượng 2 chiều và được diễn tả dưới dạng số đơn vị như metres, inches, ft,...

Chiều dài có thể được đo lường bằng dụng cụ hoặc tính toán thông qua các công thức tỉ lệ khác nhau.

Length còn có thể hiểu là độ dài các cạnh của hình có cạnh bằng nhau như hình vuông, các đa giác đều,..., hoặc các cạnh của hình có cạnh không bằng nhau như hình chữ nhật, hình thang, …

Trong hình học không gian, length dùng để chỉ chiều dài của một cạnh của hình khối. 

Một số ví dụ thực tế của độ dài là quãng đường di chuyển từ điểm xuất phát đến đích, hoặc chiều dài của mảnh vườn hình vuông,...

Exercise 1: Emma is designing a small right-angled triangular flower bed shown in the picture, where side AB measures 6m and angle ےABC is 25 degrees.

1. What is the measure of angle ےACB? Calculate the length of BC.

2. Find the area of the given triangle. If we increase AB by 6m, what is the new area of the triangular flower bed?

Exercise 2: A person wants to build a rectangular water tank inside a bathroom. The tank will have a measured length, width, and height of 5 meters, 1 meter, and  2 meters.

1. What is the volume of the tank in liters? If the tank is only filled to 85% of its full capacity to prevent overflow and allow for water expansion, how many liters of water will it actually hold?

2. Assuming the average daily water usage per person is 150 liters, how many days can the tank supply water for a family of 4 people if it is filled to 85% capacity? Round to the nearest integer.

Bài toán thực tế - length

Exercise 1: A student wants to estimate the height of a school building using a small mirror placed on the ground. She places the mirror 50 meters away from the building and walks backward until she sees the top of the building reflected in the mirror. At that moment:

• The length between her eyes and the ground is 1,6 m.

• The length between the mirror and the student is 3 m.

Assume the mirror is flat and placed exactly between the student and the building. The situation forms two similar triangles:

• One triangle from the student’s eyes to the mirror to the ground where the student stands.

• One triangle from the top of the building to the mirror to the base of the building.

1. Calculate the height of the building. Round your answer to the nearest tenth. 

2. If the building has 10 floors, estimate the average height of each floor. Round your answer to the nearest integer.

Exercise 2: A student wants to estimate the height of a tree using a vertical pole. She places a 2-meter-tall pole upright on level ground. She walks back until she sees the top of the pole and the top of the tree aligned along a straight line. She then measures:

• The length from her eyes to the pole: 1.5 meters

• The length from her eyes to the tree: 6 meters

1. Calculate the tree’s height.

2. If the student moves closer to the pole, now standing 1 meter away from it, and the alignment still holds, what would the new estimated length of the tree’s height be? Conclude if this method can accurately measure the height of the tree under any condition.
